Tell the Biden Administration to protect your right to see upfront medical costs and hospital prices!
Matthew and Adam at OpentheBooks.com are our friends doing great work uncovering government waste and corruption. In this campaign they want you to tell the Biden Administration to protect your right to see upfront medical costs and hospital prices. This is something that will impact all of us at some point. They point out you have until this Friday, September 17th to submit your comment.
Your story matters.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS – a federal government agency) is seeking public comments on increasing the penalty for hospital noncompliance and strengthening the rule – and they need to hear from YOU.
Urge the Biden Administration to go bolder on this rule — which the richest hospitals are fighting tooth and nail because they know it would force them to charge you less.
Click on this link and demand more transparency in hospital prices – and stiffer penalties if medical providers don’t comply!
Currently, hospitals are required to post their prices online (so you can know what your care will cost!), but most hospitals are not complying.
Use your own words and tell your story, or use these talking points:
Use your own words and tell your story, or use these talking points:
- Eliminate estimates and require guaranteed prices. Consumers need real, guaranteed prices – bundled where available – to have financial certainty that they won’t be overcharged.
- Increase penalties to a minimum of $300 per bed per day – instead of $10 per bed per day in the current rule.
- Remove all barriers and allow patients to access real prices without having to disclose any personal information.
- Require consistent data standards and formatting, so patients and employers can compare prices across facilities and plans, and so tech companies can create tools to enable consumers to shop.
- Build public awareness. 90% of Americans support price transparency, but most patients still don’t know we have this important right! Require hospitals to inform patients of the upfront price, and run public service announcements to educate Americans.
Transparency will drive down prices through competition and improve access to care and coverage for all Americans.
THIS is the FUTURE of healthcare.
OpenTheBooks is partnering with Patient Rights Advocate to drive public comments to the Biden Administration. PatientRightsAdvocates (PRA) is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that provides a voice for consumers — patients, employees, employers, and taxpayers — to usher in healthcare price transparency.
We’ve partnered with PRA in the past and we are humbled to partner with them again on this very important transparency issue.
We believe transparency changes everything.
